SKAPA

OutPost by SKAPA, From Old Norse: skapa (“to make, create, shape”) is a turnkey flexible off grid solution that transforms raw or disconnected land into a fully usable space, providing power, water, connectivity, and more, so landowners can realize bold visions anywhere with unprecedented speed and affordability.

The dream of owning land runs deep in many of us, the freedom it represents, the possibilities it holds, the connection to something real and tangible. Yet for most aspiring or even current landowners, transforming raw land into something usable feels like an overwhelming challenge. Traditional development requires significant time, money, and often permanent changes that can’t be undone.

In 2023, while grappling with these same challenges, I started thinking about the untapped potential of undeveloped land. What if we could make it viable almost overnight? From short-term rentals and tiny homes to small campgrounds, personal retreats, events, micro-tourism, pop-up shops and restaurants, to remote agricultural and construction projects, the possibilities seemed limitless. The goal became clear: create a complete, self-contained utility module that could be placed anywhere, enabling land to become fully operational without the need for traditional infrastructure.

Over the past two years, one year of dreaming, designing, and building, and one year of real-world application and testing, I set out to solve this problem with the invaluable partnership of Scott Rendel and David Kittle. The result is OutPost: a versatile, off-grid utility module built with flexibility and longevity in mind. It provides essential services, power, water, waste management, internet acccess, and more, all in one easily transportable, drag-and-drop solution.

OutPost represents freedom from the constraints of modern development. It’s a utility platform that turns any piece of land into a foundation for possibility. By providing essential services in a single package, OutPost removes the barriers between vision and reality. No longer do you need to compromise your ideas based on what existing systems allow. Instead, you can shape the land to match your imagination and chase virtually any endeavor while remaining adaptable enough to evolve with your needs.

Personally, building OutPost has been my way of testing an idea: how to make remote land accessible, practical, and ready for creative uses. It’s not a finished product or the perfect solution…yet. Instead, it’s been an experiment, a chance to learn, build, and solve a real-world problem with a real-world solution.

There are so many possibilities, and I’m open to exploring them all. With the right resources, OutPost could evolve from a prototype into something truly transformative. It’s about empowerment, giving us the tools to take control of our lives and adapt to an ever-changing world where emerging technologies will redefine how we live, how we work, how we move, and how we shape the spaces around us. The future will demand flexibility and innovation, and OutPost represents a way to meet those challenges head-on, providing solutions that are not only practical but also forward-thinking.

For a long time, I wasn’t sure whether I should share OutPost with the world. There’s a certain comfort in creating quietly, free from outside opinions or expectations. But this felt different. It felt bigger than me, more necessary, and more achievable than ever—a project with the potential to transform how we engage with the spaces around us and the opportunities they offer. This is just the beginning, and I have so much more to share about this industry, the rise of new technologies, and how Skapa, through its three products—OutPost, Retreat, and Field can help shape the future can help anyone Be Anywhere. If you’re curious or intrigued, I’d love to connect.

💸Invest: Big ideas often start small, but with the right support, OutPost can evolve into something truly transformative. We are currently at a pivotal stage, with the potential to scale and make a meaningful impact. I’m looking to connect with investors and angels who see the value in building something lasting and impactful. If this resonates, I’d love to start the conversation.

The First OutPost: How Jeremy Proved Our Concept

Jeremy Skapa Box Main View

When we first developed OutPost V1 Camp Edition, we knew we had something special, but we needed that first customer willing to trust our vision. That is where Jeremy came in. He owned a picturesque piece of land in South Carolina that had been sitting idle, much like many properties constrained by the usual hurdles: permits, construction costs, and the permanence of traditional infrastructure. He saw the potential for something bigger but felt stuck with no clear path forward.

I still remember our initial conversation. As soon as I walked Jeremy through OutPost’s features, his excitement was palpable. I laid out the blueprints and showed him how each system worked together, how the advanced water purification would tap into his property’s natural sources, how the incinerator toilet eliminated messy waste management, and how the hybrid energy system seamlessly combined solar power, a battery bank, and a propane generator. We talked about the Level 2 EV charger, the recessed kitchen, and even the outdoor shower, highlighting how these components could turn an underused corner of his land into a first rate outdoor getaway. By the time I finished, he was already envisioning guest experiences, realizing that OutPost could unlock his land’s potential without bogging him down in permits, construction timelines, or permanent structures. With a handshake and a smile, he agreed to be our very first customer.

The moment we positioned OutPost on his property, Jeremy brimmed with ideas. He listed his new setup on HipCamp and Outdoorsy, and within weeks, guests were flocking to this once forgotten slice of South Carolina. They discovered a place to immerse themselves in nature while still enjoying modern comforts. OutPost’s hybrid energy system, a synergy of solar panels, battery storage, and a propane generator, ensured that no one ever lacked power, even at peak demand. The Level 2 EV charger let visitors recharge their electric vehicles in a remote, off grid setting, a rare and valuable perk.

What happened next exceeded our expectations. Jeremy rapidly turned his land into a sought after destination. Guests spent their days exploring the local wilderness, knowing they could return to a hot outdoor shower, cook dinner in the recessed kitchen with dual induction burners, and keep food fresh in the 100L refrigerator. Evenings unfolded around fold down benches and a mounted heater, where groups shared stories under the retractable shade awning. Reviews poured in, often mentioning thoughtful details like the animal safe storage for peace of mind, the integrated doggy water bowls for pet owners, and the weather monitoring system that helped plan each day’s adventure. The incinerator toilet, initially raising a few eyebrows, quickly became a highlight: clean, odor free, and surprisingly simple.

But the real validation for us was seeing how Jeremy himself used OutPost beyond guest reservations. Between bookings, it became a gathering spot for family and friends, a hub for hunting trips, and the perfect venue for small events. Outdoor speakers provided ambiance for every activity, while security cameras gave him peace of mind when the unit was rented. The outdoor lighting enhanced nighttime safety, and the built in diagnostics tools allowed him to track energy usage, water levels, and system performance with ease.

Whenever potential customers ask about OutPost, I point to Jeremy’s experience to show that OutPost is not just a utility box. It is a catalyst. He proved that with the right solution, landowners do not have to choose between preserving natural beauty and generating profit. By avoiding permanent development, Jeremy quickly transformed his once neglected acreage into a profitable, elevated camping haven without losing its rustic charm, and he also gained a personal retreat that enriched his family’s lifestyle.

Jeremy’s journey from a cautious first customer to an enthusiastic advocate showed us that OutPost is not just changing individual properties. It is paving the way for a new era of flexible land use. While he chose to create a premium camping site, OutPost’s modular design is only the beginning. The same systems that power his campsite could be reconfigured for a tiny home, an ADU, a remote film set, a remote medical clinic, a vineyard’s tasting room, or a small research station.

This is one chapter in a broader narrative, one where landowners everywhere can unlock their properties’ hidden potential and turn long held dreams into reality without enduring the usual headaches.OutPost redefines what is possible on any piece of land, unlocking bold visions, fueling off grid dreams, and granting the freedom to be anywhere with a level of affordability and speed once considered out of reach.
